Since 1976, Ireland has been a critical innovation centre for ADI, thanks to its strong academic and research organisations, business ecosystem, and progressive government leadership. This next-generation semiconductor manufacturing facility and expanded R&D team will further extend ADI Limerick’s global influence.

Analog Devices

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) is a leading global semiconductor manufacturer serving 125,000 customers across a range of industries including communications, computing, digitised factories, healthcare, automotive and consumer electronics. The company was founded in 1965 and has its headquarters in Massachusetts. It had reported revenues of more than $12 billion in its 2022 financial year and employs close to 25,000 people globally.

Strong connection to Ireland

Analog Devices’ presence in Ireland dates back almost 50 years to 1976. Since then, its Irish operations have evolved into one of the company’s strategic centres and its European regional headquarters.

ADI is one of the largest employers in the Mid-West region, where it employs over 1,300 people in its manufacturing, design, and R&D campus at the Raheen Business Park in Limerick. It also has a design facility in Cork with over 100 engineers. Through the company’s 2021 acquisition of Maxim Integration, it gained a presence of more than 100 staff in Dublin.

More than half of Analog Devices staff in Ireland are engaged in high-value R&D. Its Limerick site is home to its European Research and Development Centre (ERDC) that was launched in 2015. Limerick is also home to Analog’s Innovation and Collaboration centre, Catalyst, which was launched in March 2022. This provides a space for Analog customers, partners and Irish based SMEs to collaborate on challenges across the industrial, automotive and healthcare sectors.

Renewed commitment

In May 2023, Analog Devices announced a new €630 million investment in a state-of-the-art, 45,000 sq-ft R&D and manufacturing facility at its Limerick location. This new centre will support ADI’s development of next-generation signal processing innovations, helping to accelerate advances in cutting-edge applications, including digital biology, electric vehicles, and robotics.

It’s expected to triple ADI’s European wafer production capacity and aligns with the company’s goal of doubling its internal manufacturing capacity to enhance the resiliency of its global supply chain. This investment is expected to grow ADI’s employment footprint in the Mid-West region of Ireland by 600 new positions, up from 1,500 employees in Ireland and 3,100 employees in Europe as a whole.
